Privacy Policy
Last Updated: September 2025
The Really Short Version!
My promise to your family: I don't collect any personal information from your child. I only collect anonymous data to make my games better (like which levels kids enjoy most). I never sell data or show ads to children. Parents control everything and can contact me anytime. My games are safe, educational, and built with your child's privacy as the top priority.
The Longer Version (For Those Who Want Details)
I am Scott Wittrock, an independent developer creating educational games for children. This Privacy Policy explains how I collect, use, and protect information when you use my games and services.
This Privacy Policy applies to all games and mobile applications I develop and publish, including [Game Name] and any future releases, as well as any direct purchases made through my website. This policy applies to all users of my games, with special protections for children under 13 (and under 16 in the European Union).
My games include age verification screens for settings, purchases, or account creation. For basic gameplay, no age verification is required since I only collect anonymous usage data that cannot identify any specific child. By downloading, installing, or using my games, you agree to the terms of this Privacy Policy and my Terms of Service. If you are a parent or guardian, you are agreeing on behalf of yourself and any children who use my games under your supervision.
1. What I Don't Collect From Your Child
I don't collect any personal information from children. This includes:
- names, email addresses, or contact information
- photos, videos, audio recordings, or drawings that could identify a child
- location or GPS data
- social media profiles or friend lists
- biometric information
- school or family information
- or any other information that could identify a specific child
Your child can play my games safely without sharing any personal information.
2. What I Do Collect (And Why)
I collect very limited information to make my games better for children. Everything I collect is anonymous, meaning I can't tell who any specific child is.
Anonymous Game Data
I collect information about:
- which games kids play and for how long
- which levels are completed or skipped
- if the app crashes or has technical problems
- what type of device is being used (iPhone, Android, etc.)
I collect this information to fix bugs and make games run better, to understand which activities kids enjoy most, to create better educational content, and to make sure games work on all devices.
This information is completely anonymous and collected during normal gameplay. I cannot identify any specific child from this data, and no age verification is required since no personal information is involved.
Information From Parents Only
If you create an account or contact me, I may collect:
- your email address (only if you create an account or email me)
- your name and billing information (only if you buy something)
- our conversation history (for customer support)
I never collect this information from children, only from parents and guardians.
Payment Information
Most purchases go through Apple or Google app stores, and I don't see your payment information. For direct purchases, I sometimes use Stripe for payments. Stripe handles all the secure payment processing. I might receive your billing information (name, email, address) but never your credit card details. You can cancel subscriptions anytime by emailing me, and I'll send renewal reminders to your email.
3. How I Use Information
Simply put, I only use information to make better games for kids and to help parents when they contact me. I use information for:
- game improvement (making games more fun and educational)
- technical support (fixing bugs and helping with problems)
- customer service (responding when parents email me)
- legal compliance (following privacy laws that protect children)
I never use information for advertising or marketing to children, selling data to other companies, creating profiles about kids, or anything other than what I've listed above.
4. Your Control as a Parent
As a parent, you have complete control. You can:
- see what data I have by emailing me and I'll tell you exactly what information I may have collected (spoiler: it's very little and nothing about your child specifically)
- delete everything by asking me to delete any information at any time
- cancel subscriptions by emailing me to cancel any purchases immediately
- ask questions by contacting me about anything privacy-related
- control your child's device using built-in parental controls on iOS (Screen Time) or Android (Family Link)
I recommend iOS parents turn on Screen Time and set up "This is My Child's Device," Android parents use Family Link parental controls, and all parents review what apps your child downloads and check their privacy policies.
5. Data Security & Safety
I protect any information I collect with:
- secure encryption for all data
- safe cloud hosting with companies like Google Firebase and Vercel
- limited access (only I can see any data, and it's mostly anonymous anyway)
- regular security updates to keep everything safe
- professional insurance to protect against any issues
If something goes wrong, I have a plan to fix problems quickly and notify parents if needed.
6. Third-Party Services
I use some trusted companies to help run my games:
- Stripe for secure payment processing
- Apple App Store & Google Play Store for app downloads
- Vercel for website hosting
- Expo for mobile app development
- Google Firebase for app backend services
All these companies must follow the same privacy rules I do and implement appropriate security measures.
Unlike many apps, I don't use analytics services that track users. This means I collect even less data than most apps.
7. How Long I Keep Information
- I keep anonymous game data for up to 12 months, then delete it
- I keep parent contact info only while I need it for support, then delete it within 30 days
- Billing information is kept for tax and legal requirements (up to 7 years) but securely stored
- Support emails are kept for up to 2 years for reference, then deleted
When I don't need information anymore, I delete it completely.
8. Legal Compliance
I follow all laws that protect children's privacy, including:
United States (COPPA) laws that:
- prohibit collecting personal information from kids under 13 without parent permission
- give parents the right to see, change, or delete any information
- establish clear rules about how I handle data
European Union (GDPR) laws that:
- provide extra protection for children under 16
- give parents control over their children's data
- put kids' privacy first in everything I do
I follow children's privacy laws wherever my games are available.
9. Contact Me
For any privacy questions or concerns, email privacy@umbrella.town
10. Updates to This Policy
I may update this policy occasionally to add new features or games, follow new privacy laws, or improve privacy protections. If I make important changes, I'll email parents (if I have your email) and post updates prominently in my games and on my website at least 30 days before changes take effect. If changes affect children's data, I'll ask for new parent permission before making any changes.
11. Data Security
I protect any information I collect with appropriate security measures including encryption, secure hosting, and regular security updates. I implement reasonable safeguards to protect against unauthorized access or disclosure of information.
I'm committed to protecting your child's privacy and creating safe, educational gaming experiences. This privacy policy reflects my dedication to transparency and following all laws that protect children online.
